AI-Powered Dual Innovations by Oral Medicine Specialists to Enhance Diagnostics and Education
This presentation shows complementary innovations developed by oral medicine specialists. The first is an AI-driven workflow for rapid risk assessment of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs), leveraging Roboflow-trained computer vision artificial intelligence (AI) models, Gemini, and Streamlit for a user-friendly clinical interface. The second initiative explores using virtual patient cases, created by students, as a novel educational tool to improve oral diagnostic reasoning skills. The presentation will detail the development and potential impact of both projects, highlighting the ability of specialists to drive AI implementation for clinical support and to create innovative educational resources within the field of oral medicine, ultimately seeking to translate research advancements into tangible benefits for dental practice, education, and future partnerships with the dental AI and educational technology sectors.
Aim:
To demonstrate oral medicine specialists’ capacity for development of an AI-powered OPMD risk assessment tool and the innovative use of virtual patients for enhanced dental diagnostic education.
Objectives:
1- Present the development and functionality of a clinician-led AI workflow for rapid OPMD risk assessment using Roboflow and Streamlit for practical dental application.
2-Demonstrate the innovative implementation of virtual student-created patient cases as a pedagogical tool to enhance oral diagnostic reasoning skills.
