Badly Broken, Smartly Restored: Stronger by Design
Prerequisites for clinical effectiveness of a restorative system lies on the development of durable dental restoration and an adapted bonding system. Although, these factors occupy the center of attention of dental researchers and clinicians; yet, less attention was given to preparation designs and their modifications proposed in literature.
Nowadays, it is settled that the preparation design should basically be with a defect oriented approach, rather than the traditional G. V. Black inspired designs. Our presentation will highlight the recent guidelines for cavity preparation of badly broken down teeth aiming to produce a durable restorative system.
This lecture aims to:
1.Highlight the limitations of traditional G.V. Black–inspired preparation designs in restoring compromised teeth.
2.Present the principles of a defect-oriented approach and its relevance in modern restorative practice.
3.Review recent guidelines and literature supporting modifications in cavity preparation.
4.Emphasize the role of preparation design in achieving durable and predictable restorative outcomes.
